Large Jar

$900.00

12” tall, 14.5” diameter. This pot is bigger than it looks!

This wheel thrown stoneware pot is soda fired to 2250 degrees F. in a gas kiln. The interior is lined with glaze made from wild clay. The exterior is covered with a thick flashing slip that was raked through with my fingers while medium wet. The slip crackles when it shrinks on stoneware claybody, adding to the texture. The cracks in the flashing slip are inlayed with oxides and stains before being loaded in the kiln. The surface reacts with the soda fire atmosphere, recording the flame’s movement in the kiln. Non-glassy textures are sanded with fine grit diamond pads post firing giving a luscious texture to the matt clay surface.
