20" high, 9" wide, 8.5 lbs.
This large jar is wheel thrown in 2 pieces, then fitted with a lid and knob. A flashing slip is applied to the middle part of the body and the flat part of the lid. The interior is lined with glaze made with wood ash from our fireplace. During the glaze firing the exterior reacts with the soda fire atmosphere, recording the flame’s movement in the kiln. A matte glaze develops on the slip contrasting the glossy glaze that develops on the raw clay body, both following the path of the glaze saturated flame path. Matte textures are sanded with fine grit diamond pads post firing giving a luscious texture to the clay surface.
